BOWLING UPDATE
From Tenpins & More

* A demanding and difficult sport lane condition, oiled to 35 feet of the lane’s sixty feet and with little volume in the middle section of the lane, caused scores to plummet to a field average of only 204 in Monday’s Match-Play tournament at Tenpins & More.

From a near-record 66 entries, 1,226 over six games made the cut to the top 16. In the past on a “softer” shot, the requirement has often been 1,350 or higher.

Sam Pinge of Albuquerque, who earlier went 4-0. lost to Billy Grant of Rio Rancho 175-150, requiring a final match, won by Pinge 204-151, for the $ 1,000 first prize.

It was a long day for both: Pinge bowled 22 games, including a league set later that day, while Grant threw 19 games, many with a bloodied ring finger which hindered his last game output.

Other placings were Justin Medina (Rio Rancho) 3rd, Bronson Este (El Paso) 4th, Brian Hare (Rio Rancho) 5th, Eric Vanderlip (Albuquerque) 6th, Aileen Linares (Rio Rancho) 7th, Paul Yoder ( Rio Rancho) 8th, Eddie Joe Torrez (Silver City) 9th, Brian Skidmore (Albuquerque) 10th, David McKay (Artesia) 11th, Aaron Griego (Rio Rancho) 12th, Jacob Gill (Albuquerque) 13th, Andy Byer (Rio Rancho) 14th, Andy Zumwalt (Albuquerque) 15th and Joe La Rosa (Rio Rancho) 16th.

* By way of contrast, scoring on the opening night of the summer Scratch Doubles league was huge, led by Jacob Gill with 247, 299, 290, 223 (1,059), followed closely by Brian Hare 267, 257, 278, 253 ( 1,055).

Others included Dana Miller-Mackie 299, Antonio Lopez 289 and 254, Kyle Pearce 279, Paul Yoder 277 and 266 and Tylor MacPhee 257.Â

* The recent email challenge match between teams from Tenpins & More and Keon Park Bowl in Melbourne resulted in a win for the Australians with an average, including handicap, of 219 compared to the locals at 216.4.
