BOWLING UPDATE
From Tenpins & More
The popular “King/Queen of the Hill” bowling series at Tenpins & More almost crowned it’s second Queen at Tenpins & More on Sunday.
Former Rams anchor bowler, Aileen Linares qualified mid-field with 818/4 then added 224, 203 and 244 to square off against Scott Wiley of Corrales in the championship match, this after he had survived a 185-182 semi-final win over Espanola’s Keeneth Friedrich.
Wiley, who takes a deliberate and unusual seven-step approach, opened with an ominous three strikes in a row and added a double to take a commanding 24-pin lead after seven frames as Linares, who had bowled eight strikes the game before had only three more through seven frames.
Her “down first arrow” delivery was no longer effective on the testing “sport” lane condition as she closed with 186, as Wiley threw a much needed two strikes in a row to win by 33 pins.
The top two were close in finishing averages over eight games, with Linares at 209.4 and Wiley 212.8, Friedrich third at 189.9.
- High average bowlers, more than fifty of them from across New Mexico, Arizona and Texas are set to descend on Tenpins & More this Sunday (April 13) for a unique “two-in-one” tournament format.
The primary event is a scratch trios, over eight games, with individual scores used also for a singles event.
- Summer leagues are forming now at Tenpins & More, with eighteen different day, night and weekend leagues on the docket, catering to youth, adults, seniors and special needs groups.
