Winter 9-pin No-Tap Tournament Final

High scores were the order of the day in the Winter 9-pin No-Tap tournament final held last weekend at Tenpins & More in Rio Rancho.

Two-time “King of the hill” winner, Jacob Gill was almost perfect in winning open division with a six-game total of 1,745, which included four 300 games. He beat Joe LaRosa by 103 pins with Robin Prioleau third a further 40 pins behind.

Thursday night league bowler Andy Woolf surprised himself in winning Men’s A with a record score of 1,630 including four games of 274 or higher. Woolf beat Dan Price’s 1,562 and Perry Hampel’s 1,483 into minor placings.

Tom Garcia won Men’s B from left-hander, Ken Huff with fellow southpaw, Kevin Andsager next, 14 pins behind.

Daniel Valverde, Brian Goodrich and Scott McDonnell filled out the prize-winners in Men’s C with scores of 1,316, 1,229 and 1,206 respectively.

Trinity Williams, trailing Teresa Hope by 28 pins with one game to go, rallied with a finishing 275 to win Women’s A by 12 pins, with Monica Redman next, twenty pins back.

A similar strong finish with games of 242 and 264 gave Rosie Jamael the Women’s B win over Jeanne Hietpas-Carver by four pins followed by Linda Herrera in third place.

Emily Sanchez was consistent in her winning 1,235 total in Women’s C, closing out Tammy Michel and Rebecca Johnston.

A tournament record $ 2.580 was paid out to twenty-one winners.

* Two scratch tournaments (no handicaps are added) are on tap early next month.

First up is the next King/Queen of the Hill on Sunday April 6 at 9am when Jacob Gill tries to win his third event in the series.

The following Sunday April 13, a two-in-one event with Trios/Singles that has attracted bowlers from out-of-state.
